Check items before bringing them home
Inspect the seams, joints and undersides of second-hand beds and upholstered furniture. An inspection cannot guarantee an item is clear, but visible insects, spotting or cast skins are reasons to seek identification before moving it indoors.
Travel and shared accommodation
Keep luggage organised so you can inspect it after a suspected exposure. If accommodation appears affected, raise it with the operator and avoid transferring belongings between rooms without advice.
If you suspect an infestation
Bites alone cannot confirm bed bugs. Inspect the surrounding sleeping area and arrange identification. Avoid carrying affected bedding or furniture through other rooms; ask for a preparation plan.
